Cycle North Vietnam 3 Day Itinerary is another 3 day mountain biking tour we have designed for active adventure travelers seeking an off-the-beaten path biking holiday in Vietnam. The guided bike tour starts from Lao Cai, takes you to the least traveled places A Mu Sung, Y ty, Den Sang, Muong Hum, Bat Xat, Ban Xeo, Ban Ho where you’ll find big rolling hills, great views and speedy open descents with good sight lines. You spend the third day biking in Sapa, to Ban Ho before traveling to Lao Cai, and taking the overnight train back to Hanoi. This is very hard off road mountain bike tour that requires some off-road riding skills, physical condition, and bike handling skills. The tour follows a mix of asphalt roads, broken roads, long climb cycling up hill.
Day 1: Lao Cai – Bat Xat – Y Ty.
Arrive in Lao Cai train station early this morning, you will be greeted by our local team and brought to a local restaurant for breakfast, and a short rest. After breakfast, depart for Bat Xat, a northern district of Lao Cai Province. Besides the beauties of nature, scenery, Bat Xat also offers the rich ethnic culture. You make the first stop in Trinh Tuong where you disembark your bikes, and start biking to A Mu Sung commune. Make another stop for taking picture at the border point 92 – is the first place that Red River come to Viet Nam from Yunan – China. Then you will visit Lung Po village, lying in the cross of rivers. Enjoy the beautiful landscape of valley on the way. Having lunch in Lung Po. Keep moving to Y Ty Commune. Dinner and homestay in Y Ty.
Day 2: Y Ty – Muong Hum – Sapa.
After breakfast, enjoy a short bike ride to the nearby jungle. Then depart for Muong Hum. Arrive in Muong Hum around noon, in time for having lunch. If today was Sunday you could meet up with different ethnic groups who come to Muong Hum market. Muong Hum market is located under the small valley, behind pure stream, rounded by extremely high mountains. It’s a weekend market near the spring that is a meeting, communicating, trading and playing place of people in the ethnic groups Ha Nhi, Mong, Hoa, Giay, Red Dao, Dao Tuyen, Han…
You can also do a short trek instead of the bike ride. The trek takes you to the Fairy’s Pond, located at about 3kms from Muong Hum centre.
You will be then transferred by car to Sapa. Stop en route for a visit of the Silver Waterfall – the source of the Muong Hoa spring, nearby Heaven Gate. You continues the trip, biking downhill for about 13kms to Sapa. Arrival in Sapa, check in hotel. Dinner and overnight in Sapa.
Day 3: Sapa – Lao Cai.
This is a day trip with mixture of dirt road, single track and a little portaging. There are some fantastic descents as well as walking and cycling from one village to another, sometimes the trails running through a local’s backyard. If you happen to be first rider into a village, the looks on their faces is priceless – but by the time the last rider has passed through, everyone has come out of their houses to welcome you. Car pick up you back to Lao Cai. Dinner at the restaurant near Railway station. Travel back to Hanoi by night train. End tour.

Lotussia Travel carefully choose all the hotels, guest-houses or home-stays based on service quality, location, and characteristics, doing best to make the accommodations in the remote small places as comfortable as possible. Please bear in mind that hotels in Vietnam might not be in the same standard in other country. Generally hotels in major cities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh city, Hoian, Hue…are much better than hotels and guest-houses in mountainous areas.
Lotussia Travel take dinning as an indispensable experience to clients since it is an important part in Vietnamese culture. Therefore, Lotussia Travel will not intend take clients to the most expensive restaurants but non-touristy local ones which offer delicious, local food, with nice or interesting atmosphere. The restaurants might be simple in the country but LOTUSSIA Travel guarantee is sanitary and cleanliness. Or even on our trek, we encourage our cook offer client food with new tastes from day to day. During adventure itineraries to mountainous or remote areas, there is sometimes no choice for hotel and restaurants. We will try our best to bring you the best taste of local food.
As the tap water in Vietnam is undrinkable, Lotussia Travel recommend clients to drink bottled water throughout your trip, or boiled water on treks. Lotussia Travel offers bottle water all the day, and soft drinks like Cola, Sprite or Vietnamese Tea or if possible juice in restaurants (if mentionned in itinerary). This is not automatically included in the packages. In simple restaurant or on camping, Lotussia Travel offers boiled water, instant coffee or juice, wrapped milk (Details are confirmed in bottom of your itinerary).
In most destinations of Vietnam, all the roads are well paved though the traffic is quite messed up like in Hanoi, Hai Phong… We use proper vehicles, car, minibus or coach in good condition based on the size of the groups. We use 4WD only on the rough road where the other vehicles could not pass through or based on clients requirement on overland journeys or treks. For cycling itineraries, we usually use our support minibus or minibus with support truck. For sea kayaking, river rafting trips, diving packages we use standard boat as support. Detailed information is provided on our service proposal.
We use drivers who are native or local of each travel destination and maintain good safety records for all trips. Most of our drivers can speak English but a little bit. This is just enough to understand basic words such as “time of departure”, “stop”, “restaurants”, “hotels”…If you want to learn more about Vietnamese culture and information about sightseeing sites, booking a tour guide is highly recommended.
