Ba Ra Mountain

ba ra marathon binh phuoc

Ba Ra Marathon was first held in 1993 and officially recognized as a national sport event in 2005. Up to now, the marathon has been held 26 times. The route winds along Ba Ra Mountain, and goes along hillsides, throwing into the primeval forest of Ba Ra. The runners experience a 1500m long slope to the beautiful hill of Queen’s flower, then they challenge with 1800 steps to conquer the top of Ba Ra Mountain.

The organizer designs a very unique and different path offering the runners the chance to experience the typical landscapes of southeast Vietnam. This is a place where sacred stories were recorded. Binh Phuoc also depicts heroic cultural values of the S’tieng people in Vietnam.

According to legend, the ancient S’tiêng people called Mount Ba Ra “Bo nam Brah”. The name means “God Mountain”, worshiping the god that makes Ba Ra Mountain. On this sacred mountain, the god Yut Nhut with his giant body turned the mountains into fields, turned iron into traps, turned bamboo into bows and arrows driving wild animals away. He has two beautiful daughters, Mijieng and MiLom, who are good at brocade weaving, and they often sit on a big rock in the middle of Ba Ra Mountain. In the forest, many kinds of wild animals often come and destroy crops, threaten the lives of the local people, making them dare not to go to the fields. One day, there was a beautiful S’tieng girl, who went carelessly to the stream to pick flowers, and unfortunately she was starved from the woods and ripped apart. The two daughters of the god Yut Nhut asked their father to protect the villagers from wild animals. Gods poured seven baskets of earth to make up Ba Ra Mountain today.

Participating to Ba Ra Marathon, the runners will have the opportunity to experience the unique culture of local people in Binh Phuoc, to assist to a colorful music night, and to the Street Food Festival featuring traditional dishes of local ethnic minorities.
